Announcing An International Conference

Genomics of Forest and Ecosystem Health in the Fagaceae
(Beech Family)

November, 2009 - Research Triangle Park, North Carolina

The purpose of the conference is to review the status of recent genomic and genetic discoveries in the Fagaceae as they relate to forest and ecosystem health.  The Fagaceae are an important group of forest trees distributed widely across the northern hemisphere.  The conference will focus on three genera, Castanea (chestnuts), Quercus (oaks) and Fagus (beeches), though reports of work with related genera are encouraged.  We anticipate the conference will provide:

  • a forum for sharing of genomic resources and tools developed in recent years
  • a venue for scientists and researchers to identify collaborative opportunities to drive the next generation of studies
  • insight on how to confront forest health issues facing members of the Fagaceae
  • enhanced opportunity for graduate students, post-doctoral researchers and young investigators to participate in an international forum

Conference Organizing Institutions:

  • Biotechnology Group, Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC. USA
  • Institute of Forest Biotechnology, Raleigh, NC. USA
  • INRA, Pierroton, France, in collaboration with members of the EU sponsored project, EvolTree.
